Day Nursery State Center preschoolers go to Farmers Market

Ms. Ashleigh Smith’s Preschool 2 classroom at the Day Nursery Indiana State Government Center has been working on a lesson in commerce. These three-year-olds have had “jobs” for which they were paid. They then created a savings account for their “earnings”. Today, they then went to the market and learned from the vendor how to pick out good produce. They shopped at the farmer’s market in front of the  Government Center.  Patty Fisher, Day Nursery Director of Center Administration noted the children learned about economics and social studies all rolled into an experience that has a good and yummy result.

Friday Faces: Day Nursery State Center Preschool grads

Day Nursery Indiana State Government Center Preschool grads 2012Mr. Tim’s Shining Stars of PS3 of the Day Nursery Indiana State Government Center led their preschool graduation ceremony yesterday. Teacher Tim Tegarden shared a few thoughts about their program when he sent this picture…..”All my stars shined brightly on stage. This is the American flag we made for our honorary graduate Ms. Amy. She received this flag at our ceremony presentation. My class said the Pledge of Allegiance and told the guests what they learned about the number of stars on the flag and what city and state our school is in. The children sang the song by John Lennon “Beautiful Boy” in sign language.”

Goldilocks and the three year olds

Downtown at the Day Nursery Federal Center this week Ms. Diane Taylor‘s three-year-olds are studying bears.  They did a story re-enactment of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and they also have been spending ALOT of time this week in their bear caves…hibernating!! With this new layer of snowfall on our city, that sounds like a great way to spend a cold winter day.

Have you heard the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears?

The porridge is too hot!

This bed is too hard (not to mention a bit too small! too)

Day Nursery Federal Family Feast

It is a tradition at Day Nursery for our centers to host a family meal around Thanksgiving.  Today I would like to share some pictures with you sent to me from Sarah Parks, Director of our downtown Federal Center Prior to the today’s lunch, the children were treated to a special visit from Young Audiences performing artists The Asante Touring Company and their program TUCHEZE NGOMA: THE DRUMS OF KENYAThe performance introduced the children to drumming, dancing, and singing of Kenya, in East Africa.  They were amazed by the thumb piano handmade out of wood and a garden rake. Sarah says the children really enjoyed the drums–both playing them & listening to them. The children also learned about Kenya & how to say “Hey! Let’s play the drums!” in Kiswahili, the Kenyan national language.  Sam on the drumsViolet and Faith

Many parents stayed to enjoy the Thanksgiving feast with their children, including this dad who wore a bib & allowed his toddler to feed him.  That is one cool Dad.   Happy Holidays.
