500 (s)miles of fun at Day Nursery Indianapolis

Day Nursery Indianapolis May 2011The Day Nursery Federal Center annual race day parade marched on despite gloomy clouds threatening to cancel it on Friday!  Some classes made big enough cars the children wore them in our parade–some made smaller cars to carry–some just waved checkered flags, and the littlest ones made checkered flags and teachers taped them to the buggies.  Teachers could be seen practicing their best princess waves too!Day Nursery Indianapolis May 2011Day Nursery Indianapolis May 2011Day Nursery Indianapolis May 2011

Day Nursery Federal Center celebrates 20 on the 20th

Day Nursery IndianapolisAs I mentioned in my post yesterday, the Day Nursery Federal Center recently celebrated its 20th anniversary of providing excellent early childhood education to the youngest children of Indianapolis.  The center currently has a few openings so if you work or live in the downtown area , stop by 575 N. Pennsylvania Street and check us out! Thanks to Center Director Sarah Parks for these pictures and report of how the afternoon ice cream social turned out. Everyone had tons of fun at our 20 on the 20th celebration on Friday! Our Pre-K room created artwork to decorate the center by using 20 items to tie into the 20 on the 20th celebration theme.  The weather was gorgeous, so we enjoyed our sundaes on the playground!  Older children got to choose which of the 20 toppings they wanted right off the table, while Day Nursery Chief Operating Officer Marsha Hearn-Lindsey helped the younger children explore their topping choices as well.  Marsha also double checked to make sure there were 20 toppings, as it just didn’t seem like enough to her!  (We told her come back in 5 years and we’ll have 25!)  Some teachers were even seen licking the lid of their ice cream cups—it was so yummy!  Many families stayed and played with the children on the playground after finishing their sundaes.  A good time was had by all! Day Nursery IndianapolisDay Nursery IndianapolisDay Nursery IndianapolisDay Nursery IndianapolisDay Nursery Indianapolis children's artwork

Former student visits Day Nursery Federal Center for 20th Anniversary

Graham Davis visiting children at Day Nursery Federal CenterThe Day Nursery Federal Center celebrated its 20th anniversary Friday with an ice cream social featuring 20 choices of toppings.  Earlier that day, I took a walk down memory lane with my 20-year-old son Graham, who will be a junior this fall at Indiana University. In 1991, long before I started working for Day Nursery, I enrolled Graham as an infant.  He indulged his ole’ Mom Friday as I dragged him from classroom to classroom  to introduce him to staff members and brag about how well he was doing in college.  While he didn’t remember his days in the toddler room sitting in chairs like these youngsters, the photos on display in the center did prompt a few memories of his preschool years including trick or treating in the Federal Building, still a tradition at the center.

Cinco de Mayo Day Nursery style

Day Nursery Federal Center Director Sarah Parks just sent me these cute pictures from her center’s Cinco de Mayo celebration today.  Here’s what she said about their celebration:  Here are our pinata pictures from Cinco de Mayo—thankfully the weather cooperated & we could have it outside! Our cook, Ms. Gail also made some tasty beef & bean burritos for lunch today in honor of the holiday! My favorite picture is the last one–everyone’s coat pockets sure came in handy when collecting the candy that fell out!Day Nursery Indianapolis children on playground with pinataDay Nursery Indianapolis children on playground with pinataDay Nursery Indianapolis children on playground with pinataDay Nursery Indianapolis children on playground with pinata
