Day Nursery students stay active in cold weather

When the  wind chill keeps us from going outside, our teachers have lots of ways to keep the children active.  We caught this picture last week as these Day Nursery Hendricks County preschoolers wheeled around Mr. Matt’s classroom.Day Nursery preschoolers on classroom scooters

Stone Soup provides Day Nursery preschoolers a delicious opportunity for learning

January is National Soup Month, and Ms Tomi and Ms. Jannel’s preschool class at our IU Health Center read the story ‘Stone Soup’ with the children, a story about working together for a common goal and the ‘magic’ that can bring to a person/group/community. The children then made the soup together, discussing math skills in measurement and cutting. The children then sat together to eat the soup for snack, this gave them the opportunity to build language skills and build relationships with their peers. Thanks to Assistant Center Director Amy Cavin for sharing this great learning experience!

Day Nursery Avon infants experience snow through pretend play

This week the Infant 1 classroom theme at the Day Nursery Avon Center in Hendricks County is snow. One of the sensory activities that they did yesterday was to experience pretend snow. The infants crinkled and waved wax paper pretending it was snow. They had a blast. This early learning foundation develops social emotional skills by demonstrating early pretending with objects.

Day Nursery IU Health Center celebrates Blue Friday

colts 011The staff at the Day Nursery IU Health Early Care and Education Center used yesterday’s Blue Friday as an opportunity to reinforce skills that children need to be successful in elementary school.  Students in Ms. Lee Ann Kidwell‘s preschool classroom had an opportunity to make two items decorated in the team colors of the Indianapolis Colts.  Activities such as makign friendship bracelets and decorating pine cones help develop fine motor skills as well as teach children to follow directions, take turns and to follow and repeat patterns.

Day Nursery Indianapolis

The building of fine motor skills in children will enable them to perform a variety of important functional tasks including tying shoes, zipping and unzipping, writing legibly and without significant muscle fatigue, playing games that require precise hand and finger control and drawing, painting, and coloring.

Thanks to Center Director Charity Jablonski for sharing these pictures.
