Stranger Danger Lesson comes to Avon center

Olivia demonstrates some martial arts moves.
Fifty preschoolers at the Day Nursery Hendricks County Early Care and Education Center in Avon participated in a Stranger Danger program today at their center. The program was taught by Olivia Roney of Crouching Tigers. The interactive program allows children to learn about stranger awareness in a fun, safe, active and educational way. Olivia wants parents to know that the most important part of this program has a lot of do with parent followup at home. She sent a letter home with each student suggesting that parents have periodic chats with their child to find out how they would react to a situation with a stranger. She suggests that parents tell their child to pretend the parent is a stranger and then try to entice them with candy, toys and animals. In her Stranger Danger program, Olivia instructs the children to loudly yell “No Way!” and run away if a stranger approaches a child. When Olivia was four years old, a real stranger tried to bribe her into a car by saying there was a puppy in the back seat. Luckily Olivia’s Mother had taught her a valuable lesson when she was young and she put the plan into action. Olivia has donated around 150 hours a year sharing her knowledge with preschoolers in this program.

Lukas shows how it is done.
